Poem: Goodbye to the Human Nation!

We’re nearing
The end of our run
After millions of years
We’re done, we’re done

I wish it could be otherwise
I wish I could say
We’ve done well, we’ve been wise
At the end of the day

The good news is:
The universe moves on
With us, without us
The sun continues shining
As it’s always shone

No RIP stone for us in the ground
No one to mourn our passing
We’ve seen, we’ve conquered
And now we’re gone
A legacy not lasting

Business as usual
Kept on as usual
Nothing unusual
From a species
Literally with its head in the the earth
We dug up our poisons
And powered our passions
Extracted feces
To hasten our dearth

As servants of imagined gods
Who promised eternity
And delivered annihilation
Replacements may one day come
Here or elsewhere
Goodbye to the Human Nation!
