Poem: Lullabies

Crushed leaves and dripping trees
Golden brown and greenery abound
A small lazy break
In an uber-busy October
Over muddy trails
My thumping runners are my
Chauffeur

Mid-day pause, afternoon blas
Gurgling creeks and occasional
Whip-it-out leaks
The first day of the rest of our lives
The momentous ceremony of
Exiting bee hives

Wet wooden bridges and on-off-on drizzle
Park rangers and no other officials
Dogs on leashes and some not
My head filled with dreams
Of battles well fought

Night comes as the distant sun fades
Warriors in sleep videos
Cops in motorcades
Shut eyes, hug a pillow
Open up a midnight trance window
